‘Tis the Season

It’s that time of year again, and any self-respecting woman will own up to it: lounge wear. I just happened upon these fabulous little numbers by Tory Burch online while searching for something else entirely. Isn’t that always the way…

The Chayal pant by Tory Burch is the sophisticated older sister to Juicy Couture’s drawstring lounge pants, but one hopes equally as cozy and all that much more chic. I mean, you really could wear these to the groce and not be mortified running into an old friend or colleague in the cereal aisle.

Available in black velour (is there really any other color?), these cozies retail for $150. Sounds outrageous until you try them on. I thought I had one very large screw loose when I tossed over $80 for my Juicy Couture velour lounge pants years ago. I mean, who in their right mind? That is until, I wore them everyday until they became threadbare and now can’t bear to part with them. Just in case.

And now, what a pleasant surprise ~ looks like I may have just found a replacement.

Bits and Bobs

Occasionally I do pine for the days of my carefree youth. Jumping on a transatlantic flight to London on practically a moment’s notice to visit my sister and her two boys in South Ken. Playing tennis in Holland Park, strolling up Kensington High Street to Hyde Park to play on the swings and run around in front of Kensington Palace…giving nephew #1 a piggy back up Charing Cross Road to go guitar shopping and share pommes frites and a chocolate milkshake at Johnny Rockets, only to take the No. 9 back home.

Of course, when airfare is $99 each way out of Boston, a gal can do this kind of thing (thank you Virgin Atlantic). I wasn’t so much concerned about high fashion as I was high travel and adventure and certainly never sported such a dashing handbag as Kate Spade’s Knightsbridge Lilia bag.

Lady-like and London chic, this Moss colored croc embossed patent calfskin bag is as functional as it is pretty – it will hold a 13″ laptop, not to mention those fabulous oversized magazines found on every corner news agent in good old London town. And just like most things in the city that inspires it, this bag is tres cher at $595.

For those of you inspired by a more bohemian vibe, the Kate Spade Hoxton Square Ida bag is right up your alley. Canvas with suede multi-colored patches and a soft patent trim, this is bags wreaks of London luxe, circa 1969. Vintage Carnaby Street, with a contemporary price of $395.

Can’t you just see the style icon sporting this top with her hair in a French twist and her Wayfarers resting casually on her nose? The epitome of elegance and timeless chic. A little black Kelly bag and a raised eyebrow would make the look complete.

This faux fur leopard print pullover by Graham and Spencer wows a black cigarette pant as much as a super sexy pencil skirt. The 3/4 bell sleeves give it just the right amount of retro. Keep your accessories to a minimum ~ a great handbag and a cocktail ring, perhaps ~ and let the heads turn.

Available at Chantal on Middle Street in Portland, this cozy little kitten retails for $429.

“Pink, I think!”

How cute are these rain boots? I saw these Hunter wellies in a children’s catalogue a few days ago and immediately fell into “impulse buy” mode. How could I not? They are made by the original Hunter Boots company, founded by Henry Lee Norris back in 1856, which gives them lineage, history and of all things, great style.

No forest green for my girl. And no thank you, navy blue. We like to kick up our heels and dive bomb puddles, not side step them. What better way to do that than in hot pink boots?

If pink is not your thing, the Young Hunter boot comes in a fabulous spectrum of colors, including Iris, powder blue and soft pink. And yes, slicker yellow, fire engine red and a classic navy blue if you’re looking for tried and true. These delightful little numbers retail stateside for about $57.

When my girl was learning about colors, we made up a song. We’ve come to call it, “Pink, I think!” Here’s the gist: “Pink, I think, is a very lovely color. Blue, who knew? It’s the color of the sky! Yellow, my fellow, is the color of lemon Jello…” And on it goes.

Suddenly, it’s become the ultimate theme song for a rainy day ~ I can just see us traipsing around the neighborhood on a soggy afternoon with fallen leaves all around, exploring the terra firma and singing at the top of our lungs. A nice pair of shoes will do that to a girl…
